Gil Basketball Academy to Honor Fredo Fontanez With 2026 GBA HERO Award at 17th Anniversary Gala
The Gil Basketball Academy will honor Fredo Fontanez as the recipient of its 2026 GBA HERO Award during the organization’s 17th Anniversary Gala on Friday, March 20, 2026, at the PAL Center in Salinas.
The annual GBA HERO Award recognizes individuals who exemplify leadership, service, and an unwavering commitment to the well-being of youth in the Salinas Valley. Fontanez was selected for his longstanding dedication to mentoring young people, strengthening community connections, and consistently showing up in meaningful ways that positively influence local youth.
“Fredo represents what Gil Basketball Academy stands for,” said Coach Jose Gil, founder and director of the academy. “He leads with integrity, gives his time freely, and understands the importance of being present for our kids. His impact goes far beyond one role or one moment.”
For 17 years, Gil Basketball Academy has provided structure, discipline, mentorship, and opportunity to youth through athletics, academics, and character development. Proceeds from the gala directly support GBA programs that serve student-athletes and their families throughout the Salinas area.
